safety chains chopper view By Russ and Tiña De Maris We’ve repeatedly harped on the importance of having, inspecting, and safely using trailer safety chains. If something were to uncouple your tow vehicle from your trailer, safety chains can prevent the trailer from going its own way with disastrous results. But a couple in Idaho inadvertently learned that safety chains can act in reverse. For them, safety chains saved the day, keeping them from almost certain death. propane fuel station NFUI By Russ and Tiña De Maris Across the U.S., propane prices have skyrocketed up 70% since last November. In some places, folks depending on the pressurized gas for home heating are hurting. In Wisconsin, the situation has become so intense that rules limiting how much time truck drivers can work have been lifted for LP truckers. What’s happening? A propane shortage is creating world-wide issues. Perfect propane storm Winter is a good time for a storm and, now, converging circumstances have created the perfect winter […]

TT vs MH advantages/disadvantages

By |2021-02-14T01:06:19-06:00February 14th, 2021|Boating Activities|

www.reddit.com

I recently inherited a Class A DP and was wondering. Why do people prefer a Travel Trailer over a Motor Home or vice versa? My brother has a pretty large TT he pulls with a 1 ton and he told me that it was easier to stuff the family in his TV rather than towing a small car for his family of 6. He never considered a MH though, and it’s just me and my girlfriend. I plan to bring our 2 ebikes instead of using a toad. It […]

1/2 Ton tow a 22′ 4700lbs TT comfortably?

By |2021-02-13T13:06:55-06:00February 13th, 2021|Boating Activities|

www.reddit.com

I think comfort is pretty subjective. I towed my 35′ 8500lb (loaded) TT all over the East coast with my half-ton EcoDiesel. I never felt unconformable except going up the steep grades. I had to go slow to keep the temps down. (oil cooler on the EcoDiesel is trash) Prior to that I towed my 25′ 5000lb trailer all over the West coast and from Cali to NC via the Dakotas. Same truck. A good WDH and sway control makes a significant difference in towing experience. I think you’ll […]

During these pandemic times, it’s easy to feel isolated. That’s why we appreciate plugging into the vast network of social media groups created for the tiny-home-on-wheels crowd. In the three years since we started rolling down this adventure-filled road, we’ve joined a number of RV-oriented groups on Facebook. We regularly devour reviews on Park Advisor , Campendium and HipCamp . We also follow various RV travel-type hashtags on Instagram. All provide endless sources of entertainment — who knew there were non-tip bowls for traveling doggies? — and an assortment […]

5 Reasons We Avoid Camping World

Ah, Camping World. It’s the “big box” of RV life. The Walmart of camping gear. The easiest place to find trailer things that we aren’t sure we need. Camping World is a chain of stores and dealerships (over 170 locations) that offer everything you might need to go camping, from RV-friendly toilet paper to the actual camper-trailer. And, they’re popping up outside major metro areas in prime traffic locations. In addition, they have Gander RV & Outdoors stores under their brand umbrella. They sell RVs and equipment and have […]

Current pricing on TT’s – MSRP vs. Sale Price

www.reddit.com

We’re looking at purchasing our first travel trailer this year. As I look online, I’m seeing some pretty steep discounts off of the “MSRP” (which I know can be inflated). I’ve read a ton of posts and comments in this sub that talk about how you should be able to get something around 30% off of MSRP. Are people still getting dealers to discount that much right now? I’ve also read a lot of comments about buying new vs used. Unfortunately in my area, there really isn’t much for […]

My wife and I are new to RVing, and I’m trying to do as much research as possible to make sure I’m safe when towing. I’m having a devil of a time understanding what I should set my tire pressure to on both the TT and the TV. We are picking up the TT Saturday, and I want to make sure I inflate the tires properly. Can you guys point me to somewhere that can explain to a dummy like me how to figure out how much pressure I […]

SARASOTA, Fla. – One year ago, Karl and Carol Riley made a life-changing and adventurous decision. “We decided the ground was too hard, so we bought a couple of pop-ups. Then, a 17-foot travel trailer, which we traded for this one a few years ago,” Karl said. They upgraded trailers but downsized the rest. Then, after selling their home and most of their possessions, the Rileys officially became full-time RVers in February 2020, the Rileys told FOX 13 during their stop in Sarasota. “We always look forward to doing […]
