Surprise residents will be able to schedule appointments next week to have hazardous waste picked up directly from their homes during the city’s winter household hazardous waste collection event. Signups will take place Monday, Jan. 25 through Friday, Jan. 29 for scheduled pickups Monday, Feb. 1 through Friday, Feb. 5. To request an appointment, residents can use the My Surprise app or call 623-222-1920. Residents can book appointments, starting at 8 a.m. Jan. 25 through 5 p.m. Jan. 29. Customer service representatives will schedule the best available appointment by phone. Representatives will inquire about what items are to be collected, discuss volume limitations and direct how items are to be packed. Acceptable items will be placed outside on the driveway and up against the garage by 6 a.m. on the scheduled collection date. No hazardous waste should be put on sidewalks or curbside. Properly-packaged, sealed and labeled items will be picked up between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the scheduled collection date.
