Just picked up our camper in December. Did the driveway camping experience the second night we had it. Pulled it to my sister’s house for Christmas and spent two nights in it. Can’t wait for the weather to get better so we can actually get it out and use it. I do plan to upgrade my tow vehicle this summer. Until then, it’s just somewhat local camp grounds. 2 kids, 2 adults, 2 dogs. Yeah, I’m great on one number, close on one, and over on another. Towing: Rated to 7500 so I’m great on that (only 5000 when I went to my sister’s house) Payload: 1200lbs max payload, I was at 1100lbs. Too close for comfort for me. Length: Rule of thumb that I read (110″ wheel base=20′ camper) is where I’m over, but not by much. So, somewhat local campgrounds and take it easy getting there. I am aware of my situation and plan accordingly. I feel that where many get into trouble is they are not aware of where they may be close to or over capacity and don’t adjust accordingly.
