March 22, 1933 – Jan. 16, 2021 Joyce DeSales (Dwyer) Moyer, 87, passed quietly and peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord Saturday at Garvey Manor, Hollidaysburg, following a brief illness with COVID-19. Joyce enjoyed living there the last 5 years with the Carmelite Sisters, childhood friends and gracious staff. Joyce was born and raised in Altoona and settled in Boalsburg to raise her family. She was born in the family home on Dutch Hill in Altoona on March 22, 1933, the daughter of Mary Magdalena (Schlegel) and George Lawrence Dwyer, both deceased. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Moyer; daughter, Eileen; brother, Raymond; and sisters, Ruth Smith and Verna Horton. She is survived by beloved sister, Lois M. (Dwyer) Duncan; and six daughters: Kathleen (John) McGranaghan, Colleen (Leonard) Cecere, Joleen (Shawn) Hindman, Laureen (John) Palmer, Bernadeen (Matthew) Harlow and Christeen Moyer. She was blessed with 14 beloved grandchildren: Kenneth, Christopher, Jennifer, Megan, Cory, Jessica, Kelly, Kathryn, Victor, Thomas, Colin, Connor, Kendra and Keri; five great-grandchildren: Giovana, Cassius, Kyra, Cyrus and Kaysen; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Joyce attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and was a 1951 graduate from Altoona Catholic High School. After graduating, she went to work for Bell Telephone Company where she met and married the love of her life, Tom Moyer, also of Altoona.
