Bob and Charlyne Connors celebrate their 68th Wedding Anniversary on July 21. A blind date started the lifetime of love, friendship and family for the couple. Bob Connors married the love of his life in 1950 and died by her side in a hospital bed at 91 years old from pneumonia and complications from COVID-19. Charlyne Connors, 90, and their family were permitted to gather by Bob Connors’ side when he died on Dec. 8 at Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree as he was taken off a ventilator. “I am so grateful we had the time in the hospital,” Charlyne said, adding being able to be with her husband brought her so much peace. The couple met in 1947 and were married in 1950. “I’ve known him for 73 years,” she said. “He was always there for me…. I’m at a loss for words. I am numb.” Charlyne said the outpouring of love from others has been appreciated. “The community has shown so much love for Bob,” she said. “His loss is felt by so many.” Bob and Charlyne Connors celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on July 21. He contracted COVID-19 this winter and on Dec. 4, he was taken to the hospital in Joshua Tree when his symptoms took a turn for the worse. “He just had very severe pneumonia from the COVID-19,” said Diann Petro, the couple’s oldest daughter, who lives in Glendora.
