Piece of Mind: Bring Back Helmet Law

Helmet law saves lives, so why doesn’t Legislaure bring it back? I know this won’t happen, but it won’t deter me from saying it anyway. It is that I would hope the 2021 Texas Legislature would rethink a decision that an earlier Legislature .motorcycle riders – such as those who drive them – to wear helmets. The 1995 Legislature approved the rescission, which then was signed by the state’s newly elected governor, George W. Bush. It is a law that I am certain that many Texans regret. Why? Because […]

So, our go-to campsite for the past four years just hit us this morning with the one-two combo of 1) we booked your sites for the wrong weekend and 2) no we’re not going to fix it. So, I’m without a campsite for Memorial Day weekend for the first time since we started camping. We as a group might be done with them for the long haul. Depends on how big a dick I want to be about the whole thing. Who knows of a good site in southern […]

2. Don’t. The only charger/converter available for LiFePO4 batteries is from Progressive Dynamics and it charges the battery too agressively and will reduce it’s life. It is best to just turn your charger/converter off (the breaker will do this) and allow solar to do all the charging. 3. Buy a 200 to 300 watt solar panel and a programmable MPPT controller and manually program it to charge your new LiFePO4 batteries. Watch some Will Prowse videos on YouTube to figure this all out.

Most basic upgrade would just be swapping out the incandescent bulbs for LEDs. Would be nice if we could get something that could be dimmed though, and maybe get some nicer looking fixtures. There are units with integrated lights and switch like this , but I haven’t come across a model that seems like it’s decently build and will […]

For generations, families have been camping as a way to get out in nature and bond. Having extra bedrooms in an RV makes it easier for kids and parents to each have their own space to call home at the end of the day. And with the many different types of RVs and floorplans, giving people the option to travel with larger groups but still have plenty of sleeping areas is definitely attainable. Travel trailers with two bedrooms, or a bunkhouse, give campers that opportunity to have extra space […]
