Hi everyone. My wife and I do a lot of tent camping and would like to take the step of investing in a camping trailer. We’re replacing both of our vehicles in the next two years so which trailer and which vehicle to pull it are being considered together. We’d like some advice please.

Ideally we’d like to get her a midsized SUV, but we’re concerned about what that can tow. The most we’re seeing in the vehicles we like is a 3,500 a 5,000 towing capacity. Can we realistically expect to tow a small, hard sided trailer with that? In a perfect world we’d rather not get a pop up trailer, mostly because if we’re going to do this, we’d like a bathroom with hookups, not something I’d have to dump by hand. Plus, a pop up trailer just seems like a tent with extra steps and greater cost. It’s just the two of us and (hopefully) a baby or two in the next 3 years, and we don’t mind small spaces.

I’m coming to you because I fully realize I could be wrong about a whole lot. We’re noobs and figuring out what’s available and what’s possible. We know what we want, and we’re trying to figure out what what our options are and/or what corners we need to cut.

Our perfect situation would be:

> Vehicle with either 3,500 or 5,000 lb towing capacity.

A small, hard sided trailer with full hook ups (not a cassette toilet).
